Gratitude seems to be in short supply, three weeks after the election, here on the 27th of November in the year of our lord Dolly Parton. But there is still good stuff out there, and I am determined to share some. Everybody, please enjoy your holiday and the time spent with your loved ones, and make sure to use the long weekend to unplug and recharge. But before you put your phone away, here are some of the things I’m thankful for right about now that you might enjoy. Please drop any similar links in the comments so we can all have a laugh!
1970s television, specifically sitcoms, and in particular, the absolutely classic Thanksgiving-theme episode from WKRP In Cincinnati, “Turkeys Away.”
Paul Rudd. (“Oh, oh, oh! You don’t know your basic facts!”) (RIP Liam)
The audiobook of Bono’s autobiography, Surrender: Forty Songs, One Story. Between the Irish accent, the poetic storytelling, the countless spot-on impressions, and his general gift o’ gab, 16-year-old me is crushing on Bono all over again.
Ina Garten. I mean, do I need to say more?
The Gilmore Girls in general, but at this time of year, “A Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving.” (That Melissa McCarthy didn’t get all the Emmy nominations for playing Sookie St. James is a travesty.)
The Martha Stewart documentary on Netflix. Martha probably lost any fucks she may have possessed by the time she reached the early 1990s, which is no surprise, but yet is so satisfying to see in the years since. And the sanctimony dripping off James Comey…quite the foreshadowing of what he did to Hillary.
Last but not least, and this year especially, I’m thankful for big heavy bags of sand:
As I’ve said before, lights out, motherfuckers.
